A festive nod to German-American Day (October 6th) — smoky kielbasa seared with sweet apples and onions in a skillet for a quick, cozy fall dinner.
1 pkg (14 oz) Hillshire Farm Smoked Polska Kielbasa (On Sale: $3.49)
2 Gala Apples (about 0.75 lb), sliced (On Sale: $3.99 lb)
1 lb Yellow Onions, sliced (On Sale: $2.99)
1 tbsp Olive Oil
1/2 tsp Caraway Seeds
1 tsp Brown Sugar
Step 1: Slice kielbasa into diagonal rounds and thinly slice apples and onion.
Step 2: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Step 3: Sear kielbasa 4-5 minutes until browned, then remove and set aside.
Step 4: Add onion to the skillet and cook 3-4 minutes, then add apples and cook 4-5 minutes until just softened.
Step 5: Sprinkle with caraway seeds and a pinch of brown sugar.
Step 6: Return kielbasa to the skillet, toss together, and cook 2 more minutes to warm through. Serve to celebrate the Oktoberfest season.
Chef's Tip: Slice the kielbasa on a diagonal for maximum sear on the skillet.
