Traditional Southern side dish featuring tender greens simmered with smoky ham.
2 packages Glory Foods Collard Greens (On Sale: 2/$5)
1 Hatfield Ham Steak, diced (On Sale: 5/$10)
1 onion, diced
3 cups chicken broth
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp sugar
Red pepper flakes to taste
Step 1: In a large pot, cook diced ham over medium heat until lightly browned, about 5 minutes.
Step 2: Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
Step 3: Add collard greens and chicken broth. Bring to a boil.
Step 4: Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 40-45 minutes until greens are very tender.
Step 5: Stir in apple cider vinegar, sugar, and red pepper flakes. Cook 5 more minutes.
Step 6: Adjust seasoning to taste and serve hot with pot liquor.
Chef's Tip: For best flavor, simmer greens slowly - the longer they cook, the more tender and flavorful they become.
